Why audio is specified as a system, not a list
Audio is often specified late in an AV project, as a list of microphones and speakers rather than as a system, and the consequences appear only after handover. People at the far end cannot hear clearly. The room rings when a second microphone is opened. The presenter stands in one spot because that is the only place the audio behaves.
What a DSP actually does
A DSP, or digital signal processor, sits between your sources and your amplifiers. Audio from microphones and other inputs passes through it before it reaches a speaker, and inside it that audio is worked on. Levels are set and held, equalisation corrects what the room is doing to the sound, limiting protects speakers from being overdriven, delay aligns speakers that sit at different distances from the listener, and routing decides which source reaches which zone.
