An auditorium is an acoustic and optical problem before it is an equipment problem. The volume of the hall, its surface finishes, the seating rake, the balcony overhang and the distance from the back row to the stage all decide what the system has to achieve. SHRITECH designs auditorium AV solutions from the room outwards, starting from the free site visit and consultation rather than from a fixed package.
- Drawing study and site visit before any product is proposed
- Coverage, sightlines and cable routes settled before specification
- New construction and existing halls both taken on
Speech intelligibility is the first design constraint
In a hall the first measure of success is whether a person in the last row understands every word without effort. That depends on reverberation time, how evenly the loudspeakers cover the seats, how much gain is available before feedback, and how much sound energy lands on hard surfaces instead of on the audience. Good design works the coverage out on the drawing and then sets gain structure, delays and equalisation on the DSP once the room is finished.
Loudspeaker coverage for deep halls and balconies
Short wide rooms and long deep halls need different thinking. A deep hall with a balcony usually needs a main system that carries energy down the length of the room, with its vertical coverage shaped to the seating rather than sprayed at the ceiling, additional loudspeakers timed for the under-balcony seats, and low-level coverage for the first rows.
